Southern Star promotes CPA
We want to showcase the wide range of events and activities being provided by CPA and to let PwP in the county know that they have resources available to support them. Parkinson’s awareness week starts on April 11th which is a brilliant opportunity for us to focus attention on the needs of people living with Parkinson’s. We are planning a big event to mark the week. See article below from Southern Star:
Zoom into Parkinson’s website
By Kieran O’Mahony
IT was a winter party like no other for members of Cork Parkinson’s Association (CPA) as they held their virtual annual dinner online.
As well as allowing members to catch up with each other there was also the launch of CPAs brand new website, which has been designed with specific needs of people with Parkinson’s in mind.
Speaking to the Southern Star, Bandon’s Tony Wilkinson of CPA said, “there were lots of happy face s online” and even though the past year had been tough they have achieved a lot.
“We had an amazing turnout of 56 Zoom connections meaning we probably had about 100 people attending. Our psychotherapist Monica Navarro from Lisheen House gave us some hints and tips on how important it is to make time for ourselves and that even micro-moments help us as individuals” said Tony.
“Dr Suzanne Timmons gave us guidance on COVID 19 and the types of vaccines that are available as well as the cutting-edge research into Parkinson’s that CPA are involved with UCC/CUH/MTU”.
As well as hosting quizzes and sing songs the event also marked the launch of their new website which has up to date information on events and activities happening around the county to support people with Parkinson’s.
“Our Cork Connect Weekly Zoom meetings are going from strength to strength with great attendance. We have worked hard to find inspiring speakers who understand Parkinson’s and the challenges it brings. Recently we had Dr Emma O’Shea talking about the National Parkinson’s survey which is happening at the moment”.
The group has also asked Monica Navarro to be part of their group.
