Activities and events

Details of all our regular activities and events are provided here. Please also check out our Events Calendar below, where all our forthcoming events and activities are listed.

The Zoom Zone

During Covid we have had to put a lot of our meet-ups online – follow the links to join in.

Cork Connect

One of the more positive aspects for 2020 is that we were forced to find new ways to keep in touch with our members. The weekly Cork Connect Zoom call is now our main means of connecting and keeping members up to date with the latest developments and news. Every 2nd Monday of the month our Head Space call is with Monica Navarro Hickey, our Psychotherapist, Monica talks about the various Psychological conditions around Parkinson’s, and also isolating due to COVID 19. The calls vary in content from topical discussions, guest speakers such as Doctors, Dietitian and specialists in related fields. Most importantly, our members, who actively contribute and participate to the benefit of us all. ‘Informative, entertaining, fun and inclusive.’

PD Rebels

Exercise, exercise, exercise is all we hear from Doctors, Physios and Specialists as the best way of managing and controlling our condition. To this end, our PD Rebels exercise classes were started by Conor O’Mullane. There are 10 core exercises specifically designed for people with Parkinson’s from which Conor selects 4 personalised to you to do each day based on your assessment and needs.

Andrew Burns has been leading these classes for over a year now and still has no problem keeping us motivated and engaged.

We are now back in the Mardyke Arena every Tuesday and Friday @ 12.00. You do need to book in advance but this is very easy to do.

There is one virtual class on Thursdays @ 12.00 to support those who are unable to come to the Mardyke Arena.

Anyone who attends the Mardyke Arena in person sessions is also welcome to join the virtual session on Thursday.

Click here to book your class or if you need help with booking, please call 021 490 47 60

Regular activities

Perpetual Motion – CPA Choir

We are taking a break for summer and will be back in action again in September – we have a lot of work to do if we plan to go to Barcelona in 2023!

Jerome Maume was diagnosed in 2015, aged 47. He is currently active with Cork Parkinson’s Association and advocates for Young Parkinson’s. Jerome co- founded in 2019 “Perpetual Motion” a choir for 20-30 persons with Parkinson’s, their families and friends. Before the Covid19 Pandemic the choir successfully performed at several events under its new Musical Director Pat Sheehan-Corbett and looks forward to a great future.
